【要　旨】
Prof. Paul Longley
Title: Some Developments in Geographic Information Systems and Science
Abstract: The first two editions of the book GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND SCIENCE have together sold over 50,000 copies: the text has been translated into a number of languages, and also provides the basis for online learning in geospatial analysis. This presentation will trace the evolution of the GIS curriculum as embodied in the text and review some of the developments and changes that have been accommodated in the forthcoming third edition of the book. Some prospects for development of an international GIS curriculum will be assessed with reference to the comparative spatial analysis of Anglo Saxon and Japanese family names. This discussion will draw upon experience of teaching in University College London and in Ritsumeikan University.
