 "Kunten Management System―Explanation Marks Database on Japanese Historical and Religious Documents, based on text-image linkage"
This presentation argues database of explanation marks on Japanese historical and religious documents and importance of text-image linkage.
No researcher in humanities would deny the importance of text data and image data as research data, but hardly any seems to recognize the importance of location data (coordinates) , that link both of them. Linking each character in the text with the image makes the following things possible:
(1) Word search with highlighted results on the document image.
(2) Based on the coordinates, we can make image files of respective characters out of document images, and create a character catalogue.
Furthermore, once text-image linkage is set through the coordinates, researchers can customize databases by adding their own data. Here I discuss the case of kunten (訓点, explanation marks).

In recent years, people tend to be overwhelmed by a vast amount of information
in various contexts. Therefore, more than understandable are arguments about
"Information Visualization" as a method to make information easy to understand.
As one method using 3-D viewer, we will introduce a environment called
KACHINA CUBE system which can visualize various information using "cubes".
In this presentation, we introduce KC's new design concept and functions.
