立命館大学アート・リサーチセンターは、2023年度に設立25周年を迎えます。設⽴以来、学術都市京都にある⽴命館⼤学の芸術・⽂化研究の拠点として、デジタル技術を活⽤した新たな研究を⽬指してきました。このようなデジタル技術を⼿法とした研究は、デジタル・ヒューマニティーズ（⼈⽂学）と呼ばれるようになり、⼈⽂学の最も先進的な研究領域となり注⽬を集めています。そのため、アート・リサーチセンターの役割は、ますます重要度を増してきており、国内のみならず、海外のデジタル・ヒューマニティーズをも牽引する存在になってきています。
また、デジタル・ヒューマニティーズの基盤となるデジタル環境は、デジタル・アーカイブによって構築されています。アート・リサーチセンターは、現在、⽂部科学省から国際共同利⽤・共同研究拠点として認定され、「⽇本⽂化デジタル・アーカイブ国際拠点」として、海外からも多くの研究プロジェクトを受け入れ、活動を強化しています。
アート・リサーチセンターにおいてこの25年間に研究蓄積されてきた日本の伝統文化を中心とするデジタル・アーカイブは、すでにオープン化されている他機関のアーカイブズとも紐付けされつつ、日本文化資源のビックデータの一角を形成しつつあります。さらに、メタバースや生成型AIの急速な浸透に見られるように、人間がデジタル空間をもう一つの活動領域として本格的に切り開いていく端緒にあたる現在、そのような文化資源のビックデータは、専門的な学術研究用のソースとしてだけではなく、より社会に開かれた活用が求められる人類共通のデジタル資源になっていくと考えられます。
デジタル・アーカイブが切り開いたデジタル・ヒューマニティーズの地平は、パブリック・ヒューマニティーズとも言うべき社会的な革新と拡張を迎えつつあります。今年度、25周年という⼀つの区切り際して、デジタル・アーカイブに関わる重要な業績を積み上げられ、アート・リサーチセンターの活動についても様々なアドバイスをいただいてきたゲストをお招きし、センターの到達点と今後の方向性を議論しつつ、さらに国内外の関連機関、研究者との連携を図るため、記念シンポジウムを開催します。
Co-organized by the Center for Japanese Studies (CJS), University of California, Berkeley, and the Art Research Center (ARC), Ritsumeikan University, a joint colloquium was held at Dwinelle Hall, University of California, Berkeley on September 15, 2023.
Under the theme of Theory and Methods in the Japanese Humanities: Research Using Visual Sources and Archives, faculty and graduate students from the Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) and the Art Research Center (ARC) delivered presentations on the use of visual sources and archives in their research. While discussing the specific content of their respective research projects, the presenters discussed and exchanged research methods, approaches, and techniques for employing visual sources and archives.

紀要『アート・リサーチ』24-3号の原稿募集を開始しました
本紀要は、アート・リサーチセンターで展開する各研究プロジェクトの活動成果を広く公開する目的を持つとともに、芸術文化を専門とした学術雑誌として、例年多くの方にご投稿いただいております。
アート・リサーチセンターは、1998年度設立以来、文化・芸術・情報科学に関する優れた研究拠点として、国の複数の補助金に採択され、2019年度には文部科学省「国際共同利用・共同研究拠点」として認定されるなど、研究を一層深化させています。また、文化芸術のデジタルアーカイブにおける先端的拠点としても、高く評価されています。オンラインジャーナルとして年複数回発行し、年度末には、それらをまとめた冊子も発行します。

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Akiko Takesue, Bishop White Committee Associate Curator of Japanese Art & Culture at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), to the ARC.

Supported by the ARC-iJAC, Masami Yamada, Curator in the Asia Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum, has been leading the research project Re-thinking Japonisme: Digitization of the V&A's collection of Japanese illustrated books and researching its formation in the late 19th century. 
As part of this collaborative project, Dr. Ryoko Matsuba (SISJAC) regularly organizes hands-on workshops at the V&A for students & young researchers to learn about best practices in digitizing museum collections. >> Read more. 
The release comprises 1,541 ukiyo-e prints held by the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Particularly noteworthy are 134 surimono (摺物) and 120 pillar prints (柱絵), for which the opening of this database provides a foundation for further research. >> Read more. Video on demand! 116. The late Mukai Nobuo (向井信夫) was known as a collector and researcher of Edo-period Japanese books and also collected ukiyo-e prints and albums of the same period, including a sizeable collection of 690 works by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (月岡芳年). >> Read more.

Faculty News! We are pleased to welcome Dr. Travis Seifman as Research Manager / Associate Professor to the ARC faculty.
Originally from New York, he completed MA degrees in Japanese Studies at SOAS, University of London, and in Art History at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa before earning his Ph.D. in History at the University of California, Santa Barbara.Before joining the ARC, he worked as a postdoctoral Project Researcher at the University of Tokyo Historiographical Institute. Dr. Seifman specializes in Okinawan Studies and researches in particular the embassies dispatched by the Okinawan kingdom of Lūchū (Ryūkyū) to Edo in the 17th to 19th centuries. Upcoming Events

趣旨:
