The purpose of this research is to establish the digital research environment for kuchi-e prints by constructing an image database and comprehensive database for them. In books in specific fields from the middle to the end of the Meiji era, there is a high probability of finding woodblock-printed frontispieces (kuchi-e prints). Although these are valuable resources from which one can learn about the publishing and reading culture of the Meiji era, they have been neglected by all research fields due to their morphological characteristics. Based on this background, the purpose of this research is to build an image database centered on the Asahi collection, which is the largest collection of kuchi-e prints, and to review its academic value for the study of humanities.
