This section groups together works that depict the retainers’ retreat across Ryōgoku Bridge and their arrival at their lord’s grave where they present Moronao’s severed head and tell their dead lord of the success of their vengeance. Some works depict the retainers celebrating with sake at a tavern during their retreat and others show the retainers turning themselves in to the Bakufu and justifying the righteousness of their actions.
