Applying for the Use of Materials and Equipment at the ARC
The International Joint Digital Archiving Center for Japanese Art and Culture (ARC-iJAC) at Ritsumeikan University offers a variety of digital research facilities.
- Applying for the Use of Images

As a rule, materials in the ARC collection and digital archives may only be viewed within the Center. In some cases, a fee set by the ARC may be payable for the reproduction of certain materials.

- Applying for Access to the NDL Historical Recordings Collection (Rekion) Streaming Service

The ARC offers access to the National Diet Library's Historical Recordings Collection (Rekion). If you would like to listen to the recordings at the ARC, please make a reservation at least one week in advance.
Available time: 9:30-17:00 (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and university holidays)
*We ask for your kind understanding that it may not always be possible to provide access to the recordings on a specific date and time due to internal circumstances.How to apply: Please make a reservation at least one week in advance by sending an us an e-mail with the subject line 'Rekion request' including the following information: ■ Full name ■ Affiliation ■ Contact details ■ Preferred date and time ■ Preferred duration of listening to the recordings.

Note:Please bring your own headphones or earphones (wired mini-plug). Bluetooth, USB Type-C, Lightning, etc. cannot be used.
If you wish to listen to the recordings for a long time, please consult with us at the time of reservation.
Please refrain from eating and drinking in the ARC building.

Provision of ArcGIS Account
As one of the ways to support the activities of international joint research projects, the Art Research Center (ARC) provides ArcGIS Online accounts that can be used with the GIS platform ArcGIS, a web-based mapping software of Esri, Inc. Members of international joint research projects can use the accounts issued by the ARC under the conditions as stated below. If you wish to use the account, please contact us at ml-tech-support[ at ]ml.ritsumei.ac.jp (replace [ at ] with @). Please state as the subject of the email 'Request for ArcGIS Online account' and include 1. name, 2. registered project name, and 3. email address in the email.
- Researchers who are registered in an international joint research project (including co-researchers and graduate students).
Note: If you have not yet registered for an international joint research project, please first submit an application for International Joint Research to Utilize the Center's Facilities and Equipment [D]. - One account will be issued per person.
- Each user can use 250 credits. Please contact us if you wish to use more.
- The account must be renewed each fiscal year.
- If the maximum number of registrants is reached, we may not be able to issue accounts or continue the use across fiscal years, even if an application is received.

Use of Databases
The Art Research Center (ARC) provides its databases to the members of joint research projects approved by the International Joint Digital Archiving Center for Japanese Art and Culture (ARC-iJAC). For further information regarding the available databases, please refer to the "Database List" (see below). If you wish to use the databases, please read The Rules on Database System and Cloud Storage Usage and submit an application for the ARC-iJAC to r-darc (at) st.ritsumei.ac.jp (please change "at" to @).
*Based on the purpose of your use, respective database managers will decide the result of your application and the number of databases you can use.
*In order to use the databases, applicants are expected to contribute to the development of the databases together with the ARC. (Application is not for those who only wish to browse the databases.) -
Cloud storage: OwnCloud
File server and cloud storage are provided to researchers and for research projects to facilitate the making and transmitting of digital contents such as images that have been collected by the researchers or under the research projects, as well as for allowing access to such contents by study groups via the Internet.
Users are responsible for the use of the database system and cloud storage. Further information can be found in the Database System and Cloud Storage Usage Rules.

Step 1: Submit a Request Form
Please read the e-document "The Rules on Database System and Cloud Storage Usage." If you agree with the terms and conditions, please submit a "Database System and Cloud Storage Usage Application Form" to r-darc (at) st.ritsumei.ac.jp (please change "at" to @). Please consult with us in advance if you are in a rush.
Step 2: Approval and Issuing of an ID and a Password
We will send you the review result of your application by e-mail. When it is approved, we issue your account ID and password as well.

Facility and Equipment Rental
The Art Research Center endeavors to conserve cultural assets, and possesses the facilities and equipment necessary for researchers to build their own digital archives. The Center provides these to each joint research projects.
Researchers wishing to use the facilities and equipment should email the Request for Equipment Use form to the office (see email address below) at least one week prior to the date of use. In case of urgency, please consult the ARC Office.
Upon receipt of the request form we will check the current lending status of the equipment and inform the availability of the equipment requested. Please note that it may take several days and the equipment may not be available as requested.

Applying for the Use of the Joint Research Room
Joint Research Rooms are provided to conduct research at the ARC. To use a Joint Research Room, please read the Guidelines for the Use of the Joint Research Room and submit the Application Form for the Use of the Joint Research Room and the User Agreement on How to Use the Facilities of the Art Research Center to the ARC Office detailed below.
