The Most Curiosity Kabuki World

Theaters of Kabuki were regarded as Akusho (red-light district) due to the performamce that focuces on sensuality of beautiful actors, and became the object of oppression by the shogunate. In fact, the theaters were used for secret randezvous of actors and audiences, so visiting Kabuki theater frequnetly was called Akusho-gayoi ("to frequent bad quarters" in English) and made a bad impression.

However, people who visit theater district wanted to be away from the reality with full of worries and indulge themselves in the beautiful world of pleasure.

For them, Kabuki was the place like a dream that let them forget all difficulties for a moment.

容姿端麗な役者たちによる官能的なパフォーマンスを中心とした歌舞伎の芝居小屋は、世俗を乱す「悪所」と呼ばれ幕府の弾圧の対象となった。芝居小屋は役者と客の密会の場にもなっており、歌舞伎に通う者は、遊郭に通う者と同じように「悪所場通い」と世間から良いイメージを持たれなかった。しかしながら芝居小屋を訪れる客たちは、苦労の多い世俗から離れ、美しい歓楽の世界に浸りたかった。彼らにとって歌舞伎は、現実の辛さをひと時でも忘れさせてくれる儚い夢のような場所だったのである。
