ドイツ人彫師のセウターはレランドの1715年の地図を元にして長崎の詳細図とその周辺、そしてふりがなの地名をドイツ語と中国語の文字で記している。図の右端中央に想像上の男性で、おそらく日本人の支配階級の人物かと思われるが、三つ葉葵の紋を持っている図が描かれているのは興味深い。ラテン語のテキストには葵紋を天皇家としているが、実際には将軍徳川家の紋である。この時代、西欧では天皇家と将軍家がよく混同されていた。

German engraver Seutter copied this map of Japan from Reland's of 1715 including the illustrations, the inset detailing Nagasaki and its surroundings, and Japanese place-names in phonetic Dutch and Chinese characters. Of interest, just above the inset, is the bust of an imagined male figure, presumably the Japanese ruler, and the crest of three aoi leaves. Although the Latin text identifies the crest as the 'insignia of the Japanese Emperor', it is, in fact, the crest of the de facto rulers, the Tokugawa shoguns. It was common for Europeans to refer to the shogun as emperor.
