05.04 JAPONÆ ac TERRÆ IESSONIS Novissima Descriptio (Japan and the Land of Ezo) [10]

Morden's map of Japan and the Land of Ezo shows the existence of Jesso, or Ezo (present-day Hokkaido) but proves the mapmakers were unclear how it related to the Asian mainland. The accompanying text mentions Japan as comprising many islands and called by the inhabitants, Nippon. Honshu is divided into the areas of Chugoku, Kinki, Chubu, Kanto and Tohoku from A to E.
