The famous Japanese architect Okada Shin'ichirō (1883-1932) was one of the few who successfully managed to use concrete to execute traditional Japanese architectural design. Okada took inspiration from the great castles of the Momoyama period (1568-1603). The Kabukiza opened in 1925.
