Nikolai Cathedral is the center of the Russian Orthodox Church in Japan. Its founding father Ioan Kasatkin Nikolai (1836-1912), an ardent missionary, established several churches throughout Japan. The cathedral was built by the architect Josiah Condor, using a design by a Russian artist. It was completed in 1884.
