A view of Nijū Bridge from the open plain commonly known as 'the concourse in front of the Palace'. Showing the bridge on New Year's Day has a somewhat patriotic ring to it, since this is one of the two days each year that the palace is open to the public and the people can come to greet their Emperor. Especially before and during the war, it symbolized the imperial ideal, and many military parades were held here.
