Alfred Haft

AlfredHaft.jpgAlfred Haft is Project Curator in the Japanese Section of the British Museum, and Research Associate of the Sainsbury Institute for Japanese Arts and Cultures. 

From 2010-11, he held the Anne van Biema Fellowship for Postdoctoral Research in Japanese Art at the Freer and Sackler Galleries, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC. He received his PhD at SOAS (University of London) for a thesis examining the use of classical themes in the popular culture of the Edo period. His publications include “Immortalizing the Yoshiwara Courtesan,” in John T. Carpenter, ed., Reading Surimono (Hotei, 2008), which he also helped to edit, and “Japanese Art” in The Art Museum (Phaidon, forthcoming).
