Conducting Interviews at Washino Dye-Works

IMG_8347.jpgIMG_8404.jpg

On May 14th, we conducted interviews at Washino Dye-Works as part of a preliminary research for creating a digital archive of Yūzen materials at the Art Research Center at this university.

Students from Seminar C of the Kyoto Study Program in the College of Letters also participated in the interviews. We heard details about the dyeing process as well as the current situation of the industry, while actually viewing the work areas and the elaborate tools in the factory. We were also able to interview an artisan who used to work at the company and heard about how works had been done at the factory during the Showa period.

We would like to thank all of our interviewees for their time and help.

Starting the Process of Cataloging Materials for This Fiscal Year

We started the process of cataloging Yūzen designs and trial prints that are owned by this university for fiscal year 2011. In this fiscal year, we plan to have students from Seminar C of the Kyoto Study Program in the College of Letters conduct cataloging and research of those materials. In addition, we are scheduled to have two intensive cataloging operations, the summer museum practice and the winter intensive cataloging operations, as in fiscal year 2010. We will be performing the processes including numbering the materials, preparation before photo shooting such as repair work, and photo shooting with digital cameras, in order.

The results of these cataloging and research processes will be reflected in our future research activities.
