歌舞伎

A section of the kabuki stage extension known as the hanamichi. Shichisan means seven/three and indicates the point on the hanamichi that is approximately three-tenths of the way from the stage and seven-tenths of the way from the agemaku, the hanamichi exit curtain at the back of the house. Important hanamich acting takes place at the shichisan, with the actor’s placement in the house taking advantage of direct engagement with the audience. The shichisan also has the permanent stage trap (seri) known as suppon that allows for dramatic entrances by supernatural or otherwise special characters.
