歌舞伎
The opening production of the kabuki calendar year. It took place in the eleventh month. The kaomise was produced from the mid-seventeenth century to around 1850. It was particularly important in Edo. Playwrights, actors and other theatre personnel signed annual contracts that began in the eleventh month and lasted until the following tenth month. As the inaugural production, the kaomise introduced the actors and their business. It died out after the Meiji Period, and remains today only in name. KSL
