Social networking sites are a great way to create yourself heard. Everyone in this world, no matter where they live or what they do or just how much they earn has something to contribute or tell society in general. That old man resting on the park bench includes a perspective on life. Maybe it is miles from what a penthouse dweller thinks. But it can be insightful to someone in this world. Yet this infinite wisdom is most likely lost since it never reaches anyone. A lot like someone who has no followers on Twitter.
You could be tweeting something profound 10 times each day, but where will it go if no one follows you? The answer is nowhere! So what exactly is using using a Twitter account unless you have a following? Very desirable, you'll say. But how do you acquire one? Are you able to weave a magic wand and obtain hundred individuals to follow you? No! the first steps you are taking are very crucial since they set a dark tone for that rest.
Which line would you rather join? One which has punks and weirdoes, or one that has people you admire and look up to? When it comes to building a Twitter following, you have to take baby steps.
Here are some small things you can do to get followers on Twitter -
1) Add your existing friends on Twitter and follow them. Choose people you are sure follows you back. This will keep with at least 2-5 followers. This is much better than zero.
2) Establish your objective - advertising your business, promoting your service, promoting a cause, developing a support group - pick yours.
3) Select a few top leaders in your field. For a technology startup, this is Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Apple etc. They probably will not follow you back, but that's ok. You are establishing your interest here.
4) Select eminent personalities, gurus or well known people you admire and follow them.
5) Select or search on top firms in your area or state doing exactly the same thing you do. Follow them. These could become your peers or competitors.
By this time you may be following 50 people. Wait for 2-3 days and some of these might follow you back. Don't lose heart if they don't!
6) Search on things that appeal to you - city, state, profession, hobby etc. Read the bios of individuals and follow those you are feeling an association with.
7) Now that you have a lot of people you are following, we will dig deeper. Choose any leader, company, guru etc. that you follow. Click on their followers. In many cases, these could be in thousands, but that's ok. Now start following a few of these. Chances that they will follow you are slightly higher because you share some interests now and they will see it.
8) Continue doing this process with every person that follows you. This will take some time, but gradually you will be able to construct a nice listing of followers. This will not happen overnight!
Just focus and shoot prepared to take these baby steps? The following main task would be to start talking to your followers. If you wish to 'Follow and Forget', what is the use of using a Twitter profile anyway?
