If you're considering pursuing a chemistry degree, it's good to be aware what career options are available to you after graduation. You may think the field is simply working in a lab mixing chemicals, but it's so much more than that. Listed below are just a few of the job options available.
Research Chemist - Being a research chemist involves developing new technologies for any specific company. They perform studies of chemical reactions and verify different chemical structures. You can typically be a research technician with a BS or MS degree. However, to guide the study, you'll want a PhD.
Production Chemist - A production chemist works hand and hand with the research chemist. Whereas the study chemists design a brand new technology, the production chemist takes that technology and activly works to be able to produce on the larger scale.
Sales - Many drug companies look to chemists to market many. Like a chemist, they could consult with customers on a technical basis to determine what product would best suit their needs. It not only requires chemistry knowledge but interpersonal communication skills too.
Academia - There are lots of faculty positions for chemists. In addition to teaching, chemists in the collegiate level work conducting research, writing grant proposals, and publishing scholarly articles in scientific journals.
The majority of chemists are hired by chemical companies. However, there are many different opportunities available too. In addition to many jobs available for entry level, but the path for advancement is great.
