The speed at which technology has grown has been staggering, at least in the last few years. It has changed practically every other industry: transport, communication, information, you name it. It has contributed to making the world the easy place that it is today. There are some downsides as well, of course, as with anything else. The concept of privacy has gone for a toss.

Think of this: you have a cell phone and a laptop with all your data, all your files, all your e-mails. There is so much data that it can map a very close profile of you if someone wants to. It’s not totally impossible to lose your phone, for example, and if you do that, you risk losing all your data and privacy. Not all is lost though: you can still track your phone.

Its easy to track where your phone is, though it may depend on the phone carrier too. You can find third party services that can do it as well. A few apps may need GPS but some might not. Google Latitude is an example.

There are several possible uses of location tracking. With it, your family can keep a tab on where you are (if you want to share that information). You can keep a track on where your kids are, or where your family is, etc. Apps such as FourSquare can use something like this to provide you a really useful service too. As it grows, you will see more and more apps use it.

When you need to track your cell phone location and need a reliable service, you will come across many paid services as well. Paid services are much, much better when it comes to reliability of data. Having said that, there are some phones (iPhone for example) where you can track the phone’s location on the hardware manufacturer’s website. All you need is the right app and the option turned yes.

Of course, you shouldn’t pay without doing any research. You may easily lose money if you don’t do your research. The Internet provides you an easy way to do your research and thus there is absolutely no excuse for not doing so. It would be best to look at more than a few options and check each one’s reviews on the Internet. Free services aren’t all good either. Sometimes, you may sign up to a ToS that you don’t want to, and that’s why it’s important to do your groundwork even for a free service.
