I work with mokuhanga, painting, drawing, and installation, recently focusing on folding and layering washi prints to explore new material and spatial possibilities.

木版画、絵画、ドローイング、インスタレーション作品を制作しており、近年は和紙の版画を折る・重ねるという手法を通じ、新たな素材的・空間的な可能性を探求しています。

【自己紹介文 Short bio】
Mia O is a South Korean artist based in Japan. She received her BFA in Fine Arts from Hongik University in Seoul and an MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, USA. In 2003, she encountered mokuhanga (traditional Japanese woodblock printing) during the Nagasawa Art Park Artist-in-Residence program, which became a turning point in her practice. Integrating mokuhanga with painting, drawing, and installation, her work explores materiality through folding and layering washi prints, and has been exhibited and collected internationally.

ミア・オーは、日本を拠点に活動する韓国出身のアーティストです。ソウルの弘益大学で美術学士号（BFA）を取得後、アメリカ・ブルックリンのプラット・インスティテュートで絵画の修士号（MFA）を取得しました。2003年、長沢アートパーク・アーティスト・イン・レジデンス・プログラムに参加した際に木版画と出会い、これが制作活動の大きな転機となりました。以降、木版画と絵画、ドローイング、インスタレーションを融合させ、和紙版画を折り重ねることで物質性を探る作品を制作。国内外で発表・収蔵されています。

【参加にあたっての抱負 Aims for taking part 】
After completing my solo exhibition in June, I have been searching for new directions in my practice. By joining this mokuhanga workshop and visiting washi villages, I hope to find inspiration and develop new approaches for my future works.

本年6月の個展終了後、新たな方向性を模索しています。今回の木版画ワークショップへの参加と和紙の産地訪問を通じ、次の作品につながる新たな着想と表現の可能性を見出したいと考えています。
