【自己紹介文 Short bio】
日本画と素材について考えています。画材の素を旅すると必ずそこにあるもの。単調に繰り返される音・リズム・身体性による没入感。人の暮らしと共にあった営みは、感謝や祈りの祭り事そのものであったと感じます。私の中で絵を描くことが自己表現にはならない理由のひとつであり、絵を描く理由のひとつです。また、画材の機能性を論じることは、私にとってあまり意味がありません。私は画材の研究をしているわけではなくて、私が絵を描くために必要な素材に関わる人たちと、共に生きようとしています。

I think about Japanese painting and the materials it involves. When traveling to source materials, it is inherently present. The immersive experience created by repetitive sounds, rhythms, and physical engagement. I feel that the practices intertwined with daily life were, in essence, acts of gratitude and rituals of prayer. This perspective is both a reason why painting is not merely self-expression for me, and simultaneously a reason why I paint.

【参加にあたっての抱負 Aims for taking part】
和紙産地をめぐり、和紙工房を見学しただけでは見えてこない、「和紙」という言葉が抱える根本的な問題点のようなものが、和紙を使用する側の共通の認識となればいいなと思います。

Discussing the functionality of materials holds little meaning for me. I am not conducting research on art materials; rather, I aim to live in connection with the people involved in the creation of the materials necessary for my work. As we visit washi-producing regions and observe workshops, I hope to cultivate a shared understanding among users of washi about the fundamental issues embedded in the term "washi (Japanese paper)" itself--insights that cannot be gleaned from visiting paper making studios alone.
