立命館大学アート・リサーチセンター（ARC）とカリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校（UCLA）は、カリフォルニア大学全キャンパス（UC）が所蔵する日本文化資源を網羅的なデジタルアーカイブ化プロジェクトを2025年より開始しました。

本プロジェクトは、日本文化の伝承と伝播のための研究の活性化を目的として、さまざまな学術・文化的取り組みを支援するUCLAの事業「柳井イニシアティブ」の支援プロジェクトの一つとして採択されました。公開されるデジタル文化資源は今後、柳井イニシアティブが運営するオープンアクセス・プラットフォーム「ジャパン・パスト＆プレゼント（JPP）」のウェブサイトからも閲覧可能となり、より多くの一般利用者がアクセスしやすい環境が整備される予定です。

このポータルはその一環として、デジタル資料の研究、教育、探求を支援するため、UCLAのリチャード・C・ルドルフ東アジア図書館が所蔵するデジタル化された日本文化資源を一般公開するものです。JPPに掲載する前の先行リリースとして、新しい資料も随時追加してまいります。 ---

The Art Research Center, Ritsumeikan University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) began a project in 2025 to create a comprehensive digital archive of Japanese cultural resources held at libraries across the University of California (UC) system.

This project was selected as one of the supported projects of the Yanai Initiative, a UCLA program that supports various academic and cultural initiatives with the aim of revitalizing research into the transmission and dissemination of Japanese culture. The digital cultural resources publicly available through this portal and in the ARC Research Space will also be accessible on the Japan Past & Present (JPP) website, an open access platform operated by the Yanai Initiative, makes them more accessible to a wider range of general users.

This portal provides free access to digital surrogates of rare and historical Japanese materials held at the UCLA Richard C. Rudolph East Asian Library for the purposes of research, teaching, and exploration. New materials are added regularly, in advance of their inclusion in the JPP website.
