Throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall months, mosquito's tend to infiltrate the yard. It doesn't matter what you are doing, it appears one cannot eliminate these pesky little annoyances! From spraying disgusting repellents, to piling on layers of clothes, they seem to find their means by somewhere to start probing.

Repel - I am not sure about you, but over these months, I might much rather be outside doing something than think that I'm stuck inside. Mosquito's put a critical damper on my small outdoor activities. Mostly because, I'm seriously allergic to their bites. One bite can sometimes increase the size of towards the size of the golf ball!

We have tried several repellents and plants which are recognized to deter mosquito's from coming around while I am outside. I seems, though, that do not require act as well as I long for them to. Here are some products or plants that are recognized to Repel mosquito's...

Mosquito repellent with Deet: In my experience, these sprays work to a degree. Only last for a short time of energy. As well as the fact that Deet effects included rashes, skin or mucous membrane irritation, transient numb or burning lips, dizziness, disorientation, and difficulty concentrating. Also, more often than not these sprays usually do not smell that great, plus it just is annoying to re-apply wartrol over and over again. Just may seem like it is not very affordable, right?

Citronella Candles: These candles also work to a certain extent. Some also discover the odor of Citronella offensive. When burning these candles though, how is it likely to work if the wind is blowing away out of your outdoor activities? Rather pointless in my opinion....

Marigolds: Were you aware that most insects cannot stand the give an impression of these flowers? Including mosquito's! Marigolds are not the most beautiful flower in the world and come inside a limited selection of colors. Nevertheless the smell is repulsive to mosquito's, aphids and several other pesky insects. They are doing a superb job of keeping them away. I plant them randomly within my veggie garden to keep the aphids away. Furthermore, i have had them planted in my porch to try and keep mosquito's away. Nevertheless it just doesn't appear to have the desired effect completely.

Avon Skin So Soft: This oil, produced by Avon, has become rave reviews to keep away mosquito's and flies. I have also tried this system, and delay pills work about along with the sprays that have Deet. Even horse breeders use it on their horses to help keep flies away. The smell isn't repulsive plus it works practically. But, because it's oil based, it makes the skin feel really greasy. A small price to pay? Well maybe...but I just want to enjoy the outdoors without lathering myself up with products like this.

Catnip: This is actually the stuff that cats will go crazy over....literally! But mosquito's hate it. They can't stand it, actually, it is stated that catnip is ten times more effective than Deet. However it appears to me, that whether you have the plant, or just a random bowl of it just sitting around...is every cat within the neighborhood or beyond planning to come meowing your door? Uncertain if I want to risk that....

Mosquito Traps: Now mosquito traps, Personally i think, may be the way to go. Some are better than others. Some, are more Eco friendly than these. For example, some traps require use of propane. I truly do not believe that is safe. Propane is extremely flammable. Have one of these traps close to a camp fire? That will not be safe. Or, the give an impression of propane...not pleasant. Also releasing toxic fumes to the environment will not seem all that safe either. Some traps, however don't require propane. Some, have the optional usage of Co2, that is completely safe for the environment.

So, all of these products or plants, all have their own own value. They also have their disadvantages, like most things do. But maybe, just maybe, using Mosquito traps in conjunction with several these plants would do just fine greatly! I myself have a trap looking at my front porch right now. I personally use it there without plants, and taking advantage of few other products. I will lay on my front porch and have minimal problems with mosquito's. It draws them in, and kills them, keeping them from me forever. And keeping me resistant to the diseases that mosquito's carry.
