Noh is a form of Japanese traditional performance combining dance, music, drama, poetry and masks, originating in the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and transmitted uninterruptedly until today. Its performances are based on classical literature and feature characters such as deities, ghosts or historical characters. Noh is usually performed on a special stage. [DP]
