In noh, '''sashi''' (サシ) is a ''[[shōdan]]''.

Sashi is an unmetered text to non-congruent rhythm sung by the ''[[shite]]'' (or by the shite with ''[[shite-tsure]]''), or, in some cases by the ''[[waki]]'' (or by the waki with ''[[waki-tsure]]''). If the sashi is sung by the shite, it is usually the first line. It can also be found after the ''[[kuri]]'' and before the ''[[kuse]]'' shōdan in the typical kuri-sashi-kuse sequence. 

The content of the sashi varies depending on the play. It can be an explanation of facts, or an internal monologue of a character.

Standard opening lines of a sashi shōdan are sung on a single pitch, with only the last or second to last syllables lengthened and sometimes modulated by ''[[fushi]]''. Towards the end of the sashi, the pitch lowers.This melodic contour is used both in the ''[[yowagin]]'' (soft voice) and ''[[tsuyogin]]'' (strong voice) modes, and is commonly referred to as ''[[sashi-utai]]''. The sashiutai style is not limited to the sashi shōdan, but used elsewhere as well.
