Chūnori (halfmatch) is one of the three basic rhythmic systems in nō where the syllables of the song are matched to the eight-beat unit that informs the drum beats. In the chūnori system, each syllable matches a half beat. The resultant pulse gives the music a sense of energy. Used for moments of vigorous intensity, such as the final dances in warrior pieces, chūnori sections generally include [[hiranori]] lines (differently matched to half beats) interspersed among the chūnori lines.
