ちゅうのり 中ノリ

Chūnori (halfmatch) is one of the three basic rhythmic systems in nō where the syllables of the song are matched to the eight-beat unit that informs the drum beats. In the chūnori system, each syllable matches a half beat. The resultant pulse gives the music a sense of energy. Used for moments of vigorous intensity, such as the final dances in warrior pieces, chūnori sections generally include hiranori lines (differently matched to half beats) interspersed among the chūnori lines.
