Storymapping the Shinsengumi is a digital humanities companion resource to the story of the Shinsengumi as told in Shiba Ryōtarō's Shinsengumi Keppūroku (新選組血風録, 1962). Using georeferenced Meiji-period maps and GIS software, the project anchors the Shinsengumi's adventures in the geography and temporal context of Bakumatsu-era Kyoto. It helps users untangle the complicated chronology and geographic context of Shiba Ryōtarō's novel.
