"Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami" is one of the three major bunraku masterpieces. The "Terakoya" act depicts the agony and sadness of a couple as they are ordered to kill their master`s  child Kanshusai, who has been forced upon them by circumstances. He is saved by the sacrifice of the estranged blakc sheep in the family Matsuomaru, who eventually reveals himself to be an upright and faithful son to his father and a loyal retainer to his master by conceeding to the killing of his own son in replacement of his master`s.

"Hidakagawa Iriai-zakura"  is a drama of jealousy and love. I t changes a woman into a snake. Pursuing her love, kiyohime jumps into the Hidakagawa river, and her costume turns into silver scale design on a white background.
