In the humanities research priding on its long traditional histories, it is forced to change a research method dramatically along with the technical innovation in the information science and the rapid inflation progress.
It is undoubted that this will have a big impact on researches and educations.
However, there are very few examples which took information techniques in the humanities research and resulted in the innovative effects.
This program aims to re-establish the knowledgeable framework by taking the latest information studies, methods and techniques in the “Kyoto studies”.
As a representative major in Kyoto, historical studies major at Ritsumeikan University has been receiving a high evaluation so far.
Furthermore in geographic studies major, we have been proceeding an innovative research as a base of the Geographic Information System (GIS) in Kansai area.
In Art Research Center, we have digital archived the material and immaterial cultural resources in the view of humanities and got the high academic results.
By supporting the research of academic contents stored by the latest information management techniques produced by the science and technology research, we can get to the completely new results.
It is not too much to say that we can reach to the unparalleled results by utilizing the built-up networks between other institutions and the benefits of our location, and also by the collaborations with the traditional and the latest techniques.
Further, we will be able to transmit our research results to the society rapidly without limited just by the inside of our university, and aim at activating the traditional industries and industrializing them to the new fields.
This leads to strengthen the connection to the local more than ever and realize the new type research collaborated with the local.
In the information technology aspects, throughout these researches, it is possible to step in the new field at different point of view from former and transmit the world frontiered research results.
We have regarded these researches as the broad entertainment　(intellectual cooperated space)　activities.
From here, we like to produce the various active research results and educational methods.

First of all, taking a leadership, our historical studies major promotes our research mainly on below five specific themes
-research for religiously and ideologically academic histories
-research for books, documents, publications, and digital libraries
-research for traditional handcraft and industrial histories
-research for performing art and stage space
-research for industrially and culturally developing city, Kyoto

The positivism is the common in all these contents research, and we require the holder of art and handcraft skills and the persons concern the shrines and temples to participate our research as our cooperative researchers.
Based on this, we proceed digital archiving the resources of this research fields among our collections, and storage the archiving of cultural resources and the web transmission techniques while fixing our eyes on up-coming web broadcasting times.
Throughout these processes, finally we aim at setting the trend in information management techniques for picture contents and the techniques of web transmission system.
We make the virtual space of Kyoto with historical time axis used by GIS and virtual reality, and open and transmit the specifically high and sensitive cultures in Kyoto as a system called “Kyoto Virtual Time Space”, .
Also, securing the satellite research rooms at some of the culturally practical places in Kyoto, we conduct the informative transmission in real time.
The professors in science and technology graduate course are in charge of the information basis and the high technological development in these researches, and promote the systematic establishments.
By utilizing this, the researchers in humanities studies store and practice the contents and transmit the information through the high network rapidly.
Also, strengthening the solidarity between research institutions in abroad, through the network establishment among various researches and educational aspects and researcher exchange, we transmit our research results to all over the world.
Moreover, we conduct world-widely joint and emphatic research while establishing more high interactive entertainment that can open Kyoto and other Japanese own traditionally material and immaterial cultures and art researches.

Besides ordinary skills, we establish a new project-typed education system, and educate the students with the comprehensive research management abilities.
Drawing a clear distinction between the ordinary passive typed education, we aim at educating them so that they can utilize their management abilities in various fields, increase more international exchange chances, and be world-level researchers who are internationally available not only in their English abilities but also in their imagination.
While aiming at educating the world-level researchers who can plan, research, and develop the new system by themselves, we purpose to raise the human resources with rich sensibilities and open-business minds which can pioneer the new fields
For this realization, while focusing on the historical studies major, we enforce the crossing typed educational research system uniting both humanities and science and engineering courses、and provide educations based on the practical researches taking the benefits from various fields widely in the humanity sciences.

Concretely, we purpose to develop bellows matters;
-deepen the content research capacity which is connectable to the development of the digital archive transmission technology
-set up the course which aims at acquiring the information technological skills as well as obtaining archiving techniques for material and immaterial cultural resources
-have frequent interchange opportunities between the overseas’ researches of Japanese studies and Kyoto studies while promoting the comparative research of various locals and cities in Kyoto and the world and acquiring an international research sense
-for enforcing the above educations, enrich educational system of the high information science fields and at the same time prepare the environment for digital archive on campus and virtual reality research
