A recent analysis of 2011 health plan data filed with insurance regulators for year-end 2011 shows health plans continue to see revenue move away from commercial.  The article by Debra A. The report shows a 1.1% increase in the average number of people covered throughout the year and a 5.9% increase in health plan revenues between December 2010 and December 2011.  The continuous changes in the economic environment have shifted where revenue comes from for these health plans.  Comprehensive, risk-based commercial plans have fallen from 59% of the market share to 47% in just about five years.  The trend continues and shows how a struggling economy changes the way people view their health plans. The information from the NAIC 2011 data available from MFAs Health Coverage Portal, shows sources of revenue come from 47% commercial, 22.3% managed Medicare, 16% managed Medicaid, 7.4% FEHBP, 2.3% from dental only, .4% from vision only, 1.9% from Medicare supplements, and 2.7% from other health plans sources.
